Chalmers Gibbs is the leading architectural practice in the Cayman Islands that strives to achieve design excellence in successful and enduring projects. The practice was first established on Island in 1959, maintaining fully staffed offices since 1966. We are 100% Caymanian owned company that focuses its entire practice in the Cayman Islands, meaning reinvestment in our local community. We currently have a staff of 12 providing architectural, interior architecture and planning services.

Chalmers Gibbs has been the lead architect on many prominent buildings in the Cayman Islands over the years including Owen Roberts Airport, Cricket Square, Ugland House, Butterfield Bank, Royal Bank, HSA hospitals and many other commercial, institutional and industrial projects. Our portfolio covers a wide range of sectors such as commercial office buildings, financial services, healthcare, aged care, tertiary education, residential, hospitality and industrial projects. Our team members have international experience and training in varied fields, bringing this expertise to our projects and as well to providing mentorship to new generations of Caymanian architects, interior designers and technologists.

William Steward, M. E. Des. (Arch), MRAIC

Managing Director

Wil studied architecture in Canada, gaining a Master’s degree in Environmental Design from the University of Calgary in 1981. Working in various architectural practices both in Calgary and Vancouver, he formed his own practice in Vancouver in 1987 as a registered architect in the province of British Columbia.

Relocating to Grand Cayman in 1992, he joined Chalmers Gibbs as a senior architect becoming Managing Director in 2004.

Wil’s professional experience covers the spectrum of architectural projects, including commercial, hotel and resort, health care, retail and luxury residential. He is currently a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and CASE (Cayman Association of Surveyors, Architects and Engineers).

With a lifelong passion for music, Wil is a respected jazz pianist and dabbles in a love of steel guitars as well as folk instruments. He regularly performs with his group Cool School at various music events in Grand Cayman as well as abroad

Luiza Dawson, BA (Hons) Arch, PgDip, RIBA

Senior Project Manager | Architect

Luiza studied architecture in the UK gaining her ARB certification board in 2007 as well as a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.   

Her professional experience spans from her home country Brasil to United Kingdom and Cayman Islands working with Chalmers Gibbs since 2019.  Her projects include luxury private residential, commercial and educational architectural projects blending thoughtful design with a deep understanding of how spaces shape lives.   

Throughout the 20 years in the field, she seeks to apply her design and project management skills through collaboration with high-profile clients and multi-disciplinary teams utilizing her solutions-oriented mindset to deliver successful projects always maintaining the project brief as focus.

Sean Douglas, Dip. Arch. Tech.

Architectural Technologist

Sean holds an advanced diploma in Architectural Technology from Mohawk College in Hamilton, Canada. 

He originally joined Chalmers Gibbs as an intern in 2007. After working as an architectural technologist in various projects here in Cayman, he rejoined Chalmers Gibbs in 2017, this time with short hair.

After varied work experience as an architectural technologist, including a stint as a technician for Cayman Water Authority, he rejoined Chalmers Gibbs in 2017. 

Sean is especially talented in 3d modelling and renderings and also has experience from surveying, GIS systems and project management. 

Cherie Sebastian, Dip. Arch. Tech, LEED AP

Senior Architectural Technologist

Cherie studied Architectural and Building Technologies in Canada and is an International Associate of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (IA, RAIC®).  She holds further professional membership with the Designer Society of America (DSA) and LEED®AP certification through the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC).

With over 18 years’ experience, Cherie offers practical knowledge towards a wide variety of project types including Commercial, Residential (Single and Multi-Family), Healthcare, Institutional, Hospitality and Industrial uses.

Cherie relocated from Canada to the Cayman Islands in 2017.  She has been part of the team at Chalmers Gibbs since 2018.

Ciarán Treanor, B.Arch.

Architect

Ciarán Treanor is a registered architect who has gained considerable and diverse professional experience in the design of residential, institutional, commercial and industrial architectural projects in Ireland, Europe and the Cayman Islands.

He has been involved in all stages of project delivery, including initial design, design development, project management, consultant coordination, tendering, and construction administration.

Prior to relocating to Grand Cayman, Ciarán worked with leading practices in Dublin, contributing to a range of educational and community design projects delivered mainly through public works contracts. He holds professional membership of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI).

Kelsey Vitullo, M.Arch. | M.LA.

Architect | Landscape Architect

With dual master degrees in architecture and landscape architecture, Kelsey’s passion for the interface of these two fields, coupled with an understanding of cultural and environmental sensitivities, affords her a complex, yet elegantly refined, ability to create place. Continual inspiration is drawn from her artwork, where she expresses and explores the ephemerality of landscapes. Her love for plants has resulted in the successful propagation of a once-believed-to-be-extinct plant, Salvia caymanensis (Cayman Sage), while volunteering at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. Throughout 13 years in the design field, her work has centered on a holistic and sustainable approach to the built environment. This has included a masterplan and design of a Wetland Park and Pavilion, the detailing of Rutgers University’s Nursing and Science Building, and the realization of a private residential project in Virginia.

Denise Prates, BArch. CAU-BR

Architect

Denise Prates graduated from architecture school in 2014, where she started her career in her home country, Brazil. Initially working on restoration projects for several historical buildings, Denise transitioned to residential architecture and worked in multiple projects and renovations. These experiences allowed Denise to enrich her expertise in historical preservation and structural integrity, as well as to develop a strong design intuition in creating functional living spaces tailored to client needs. In 2022, Denise brought her background experience and creative vision to Chalmers Gibbs Architects. Since joining the firm, she has played a key role in a wide array of projects, including corporate offices, government facilities, and commercial developments. Denise’s comprehensive expertise and innovative approach continue to contribute significantly to the firm’s dynamic architectural solutions.

Stacey Dorush, NCIDQ

Interior Designer | Project Manager

Stacey joined Chalmers Gibbs Architects in 2025 to lead the firm’s interior design practice. A highly organized professional with 25 years of international experience, she has worked across Canada, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands delivering residential, commercial, healthcare and institutional projects of varying size and complexity.

Stacey is recognized for her commitment to deadlines, strong attention to detail, and clear team communication throughout the design and construction process. She has held senior design and project roles with leading firms and contractors, contributing to the successful delivery of luxury residential, corporate, healthcare and hospitality interiors. Stacey holds an Interior Design diploma from Algonquin College and a Bachelor of Science from University of Ottawa, and is NCIDQ certified.

Hussam Khoury, MARCH, MUD, PMP, LEED AP

Senior Architect

An architectural professional with over 15 years of international experience across the GCC—including NEOM—and Africa. His work spans residential, retail, office, mixed-use, healthcare, and hospitality developments.

Adept in both project and design management, he combines a deep understanding of spatial planning with strategic leadership, aligning design vision with client goals and organizational objectives.   Whether leading a design team or managing large-scale developments, he brings clarity, focus, and a passion for user-centered, meaningful design solutions. His foundation stems from achieving his master’s degrees in architecture and urban design from Arizona State University and Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.
