Central Scranton Park

Central Scranton Park is shaped by three core intentions: strengthening connectivity, honoring cultural heritage, and mitigating flooding. As the district’s central gathering space, the park weaves together locals, visitors, architecture, and activity through a network of pathways and circular plazas defined by regionally inspired materials and native planting.

Organized around an existing water feature, program elements radiate outward in a constellation-like arrangement—including a sports court, senior community center, public restrooms, open-air gazebo, youth center, and calisthenics area. Benches are strategically placed to support rest, social interaction, and accessibility. Distinct planting palettes help define each zone, with Royal Palms marking key entrances and a Heritage Garden drawing from traditional Cayman gardens in collaboration with a local expert. Shade trees create comfortable gathering areas, while the Yellow Pui introduces seasonal color and vibrancy.

Integrated stormwater strategies—including detention zones, swales, subsurface catchment beneath parking and the sports court, and elevated pathways—work together to manage water across the site and enhance long-term resilience.

Through its materials, planting, and circulation, Central Scranton Park becomes a cohesive, community‑rooted landscape that reflects both the identity of its neighborhood and the broader cultural context of Cayman.
